How to get a Washington D.C. Medical Marijuana Card

If you’re interested in getting a D.C. medical cannabis card and making purchases at the dispensary, the following steps will guide you through the process. The card is your key to the dispensary and we look forward to serving you. Feel free to contact our helpful staff if you need assistance at any stage of the process.

Step 1: ELIGIBILITY

If you live in D.C. and need marijuana for medical reasons, you are eligible to participate! In the District, patients may obtain medical marijuana for any health condition with the approval of a doctor. Please note that patients visiting from other states are eligible to make purchases with your current patient certification.

Step 2: PHYSICIAN RECOMMENDATION

The most important step is getting a physician recommendation for medical marijuana. When discussing medical cannabis with your doctor, it’s important to be honest about your health situation and explain why you believe medical cannabis treatment will be beneficial for you.

Step 3: PATIENT APPLICATION

Once you’ve received your recommendation, you’ll need to complete a patient application. It’s a simple form that includes some basic information as well as two proofs of residency. Click here to see your options for proving residency and feel free to give us a call if you have questions. Participating physicians often provide assistance preparing and submitting your application. We’re available to help as well.

Step 4: MAKING PURCHASES

Once your application is submitted, you will typically receive your medical marijuana card in the mail within 3-4 weeks. As soon as your card arrives, you’re welcome to begin visiting the dispensary and making purchases. Our staff will be happy to assist you in selecting the best products for your specific condition and symptoms.

QUESTIONS?

We love hearing from new patients and we’re happy to answer any questions you have about the program. Call us today at 202-670-4420 and we’ll walk you through the process from beginning to end. Hope to hear from you soon!

How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card In DC, MD, & VA!

If you want to get your nugs from a dispensary in DC or Maryland, you have to get a medical marijuana card! To get access to the dispensaries, you MUST live in either DC or Maryland.

Maryland patients have access to dispensaries in both regions, but DC patients are limited to the city’s own six dispensaries. Medical marijuana is available NOW and the Gentleman has partnered with Veriheal to get you signed up!

Veriheal isn’t limited solely to Maryland and DC, by the by, they also help patients in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania get medical cards for their state’s programs. Nice!

The qualifying conditions for medical marijuana access in Maryland are:

“If the patient has a chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition that causes: cachexia, anorexia, wating syndrome, severe or chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, severe or persistent muscle spasms, glaucoma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or another chronic medical condition which is severe and for which other treatments have been ineffective.” (from the MMCC Patient FAQ)

DC residents can get a medical marijuana card for any condition whatsoever, which is awesome, cuz medical cannabis can help with a lot of different symptoms that aren’t always covered under other state’s laws.

Virginia residents don’t have any condition restrictions, either! But the dispensaries aren’t supposed to be open until later 2019.

FEES

Maryland residents must pay $50 to the MMCC for a patient ID card. Existing patients have until April 1 2019 to get their ID cards!

DC residents must pay $100 to the District’s Dept of Health along with their application. The fee for low-income patients is $25.

Veriheal charges $200 and is one of the most expedient methods of obtaining the physician’s certification that you’ll need for Maryland, DC, or any of the states they operate in. Oh, here’s a fun fact- your physician recommendation in Maryland doesn’t necessarily need to be a doctor!

VERIHEAL IS HIPAA COMPLIANT! That means you can rest easy, baby bear, all your personal information is safe and sound. So what are you waiting for? Book your appointment at Veriheal today!

BUT I LIVE IN VIRGINIA!

I have awesome news for you, then! You can register as a patient in Virginia now. The dispensaries are tentatively scheduled to open late 2019, barring sharknados or, worse, bureaucracy. Duh duh duh!

The news only gets worse from there. In Virginia, it is still not legal to possess cannabis, which puts the dispensaries and you, the patient, in a legal gray area (welcome to the party, hardyharhar).

You can get a certification from a doctor that you can use for an Affirmative Defense in court if you get arrested (which means VA still gets its greedy, greedy fingers on those court fees, baby!) AND if you register as a patient with the state ($50). VA NORML’s page can guide you to doctors that are registered to provide your certification- Veriheal doesn’t operate in Virginia currently.

After all that, when the dispensaries open, they’re only allowed to sell CBD and THCA oil within allowable ratios, which means no flowers. However, the law was recently amended to specifically allow lollipops, lozenges, capsules, sprays, creams and lotions. So ingestibles and topicals.

I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS!

And feel free to send the Gentleman your question. My discretion is assured.
